Bruno's Pizza River Park unveiled a new design for their digital menu board. Why am I posting this on my blog you might ask? Because I designed the menu, of course.

Here's what the menu looks like.

Scouting Report

Apr 28, 2011

The National Football League draft starts tonight at 8pm. For those who don't follow football, the draft is a 3 day event where NFL teams take turns picking players fresh out of college to join their teams. Upon being picked in the first round, players are swept up in a media hype-storm and sign contracts for ridiculously huge amounts of money before they even take a step onto a professional football field. Because I'm an avid NFL fan and am making a similar leap between the college and professional worlds very soon, I thought it would be fun to make up a Pro Football Weekly style scouting report for my skills as a new media/graphic design prospect. So here we go...

Randal Slisz – New Media/Graphic Design
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 145
Birthdate: 12/12/1983
Hometown: Osceola, IN
GPA: 3.2

Notes: Fair amount of freelance experience working with local businesses and college professors. Currently working at Instructional Media Services at IUSB where he is expected to be a "jack-of-all-trades". Substitute taught for about two years, one of these years was as a full time sub for a middle school art class. Teaches martial arts and enjoys working with people who want to learn. Recieved an award for Excellence in Art at Indiana University South Bend in 2011. Enjoys amateur athletic competition.

Positives: Very hard worker. Likes to be busy. Very versitale skill set. Willing and able to learn new skills. Mostly humble. Can pull off professional looking projects in short amount of time. Likes to be challenged. Takes criticism well. Is able to work as part of a team. Loyal. Creates clean, creative, and efficient work. Dependable. Fairly competitive and shows passion for his work. Composed in pressure situations and works well in crunch time.

Negatives: Tends to procrastinate when faced with lesser challenge. Skill set may not lend itself to a position concentrated to a specific area. Is susceptible to making mistakes when distracted. Sometimes needs to managed more than he should.

Summary: A very talented multi-threat graphic designer and new media technician. Would be best suited in a position where versatility is key. He is easy to manage and get along with, but may need a bit of extra management in his rookie season. Can provide an immediate impact.

Draft projection: Middle of the first to early second round.

BFA Show

Apr 26, 2011

Well, we have hung our work and computers and television monitors have been wired–that room is probably going to be 90 degrees from all the digital monitors. All though I'm relieved that all of the work that goes into getting the show going is pretty much done, I'm still super anxious to find out what people think. We officially open tomorrow (Wednesday the 27th) at noon. Come by the South Bend Museum of Art to check it out! Congrats to all who are participating!

I am not keeping up on this blog thing like I said I would. Am I just to busy? or lazy? Probably. Anyways, I thought I would just write something down today to try to get back into the habit of doing it. Maybe I'll have something more intersting for you all to read or look at next time.

The Road to Dallas

Feb 21, 2011

My road to Dallas has been cut short. Here is my attempt at a pregame show for Superbowl XLV (about 2 weeks late). I think it would have been nice to have had a little more fundamental knowledge of Flash before I was tasked with planning out this project. I might not have decided to animate a summary of the first three rounds of the 2011 NFL Playoffs–in the end I only made it through the second round.

But I think I pushed myself pretty hard and I'm pretty happy with what I've got here. Check it out!

The Road to a Flash Animation

Feb 3, 2011

I've been working on this little animation project for class. Its proving to be much tougher than I first anticipated. Although I'm enjoying the self guided research aproach to learning Flash Pro CS5 as a software tool, it would have been nice to have a little more guidance on my subject matter and storyline. I didn't think it would be this difficult to come up with 20 seconds of video, which frankly isn't the best work that I think I can produce.
